The Lamborghini Murciélago, produced from 2001 to 2010, is an iconic supercar known for its bold design and exceptional performance. Available in both manual and e-gear (automated manual) transmissions, the manual variant of the Murciélago is particularly notable for offering an engaging driving experience with a 6-speed gated manual gearbox. The amount of cars produced with e gear vs manual is debatable.
- Manual Transmission (6-speed gated manual): Approximately 30% of all Murciélagos produced were equipped with the manual transmission.
- E-Gear (automated manual transmission): Roughly 70% of Murciélagos were fitted with the e-gear system.
The Murciélago’s manual transmission is a traditional 6-speed gearbox featuring a gated shifter, which provides a tactile and mechanical shifting experience. Both gated and e gear transmissions are almost identical. The actuation and gear engagement systems are the difference. The gated cars are more valuable, rare, reliable and highly sought after. So we set out to give the car community what they want! We have developed, produced and tested our own manual components to fit in all versions of the Murcielago production run. This gives the car community the option to remove that unreliable sluggish e gear system.
MMWX Gated shifter : Provides a mechanical grid for the driver to shift through gears manually.
Shift turret, lever and linkage : Transmits the driver’s input to the transmission.
Custom carbon console that mimics the factory components put the finishing touch on the interior creating the proper resting space for the turret and gate.
Clutch system: Hydraulic-actuated single-plate dry clutch for disengaging the engine from the transmission during shifting. We replace the factory e gear bearing seals and bell housing seals with the correct materials for clutch fluid operation.
Differential : Responsible for power distribution to the Murciélago’s all-wheel-drive system. We offer front differential delete options to lighten the car by several hundred pounds.
The Murciélago’s gated shifter is one of its most recognizable features, designed for precision and driver feedback. The metallic gate with visible slots for each gear, making it a mechanically engaging experience. The gated design allows the driver to feel and hear each gear selection more directly, providing a sense of connection between the car and pilot.
Advantages of the Gated Shifter
Driver Feedback: Feel one with car and road again! The tactile sensation of moving the gear lever across the metal gate provides distinct feedback, ensuring precise gear changes.
Mechanical Engagement: Unlike modern dual-clutch systems or e gear systems, the manual system requires deliberate inputs, offering a raw driving experience.
Reliability: Our components are designed specifically for more practical service access. The wear items are components that can be sourced locally. The simplicity of the mechanical system elevates the usability and reliability by removing the automated system.
Reduced Mis-shifts: The defined gates reduce the risk of accidentally selecting the wrong gear during high-speed or aggressive driving. Inherent in the flow of the gate design.
The clutch system in the Lamborghini Murciélago is a single-plate, dry clutch actuated by a hydraulic system. The clutch pedal, located on the left side of the footwell, requires force to operate compared to modern supercars, reflecting the mechanical nature of the system. This is a system that is slowly fading into automotive history until now.
The hydraulic system consists of our master cylinder connected to our clutch pedal, which sends hydraulic pressure through lines to the slave cylinder at the clutch fork. When the pedal is depressed, the clutch disengages, allowing the driver to shift gears. When the pedal is released, the clutch re-engages, transmitting engine power to the transmission. That’s it no more e gear!
